Beleaguered Pakistan will be eyeing a much-needed win when they take on New Zealand in the second game of the ongoing five-match T20I series. The game is scheduled to be played on Tuesday (March 18) at the University Oval, Dunedin.
Pakistan's journey under new captain Salman Agha began in a disastrous fashion. Pakistan were bowled out for just 91 runs in the first T20I to register their lowest T20I total in New Zealand.
Right from the toss, nothing went Pakistan's way as New Zealand inflicted a heavy 9-wicket defeat on them. Asked to bat first, Pakistan's openers departed even without opening their accounts and the tourists just could not recover after that.
They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for a paltry total of 91 runs. Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy were the picks of the bowlers, taking 3 and 4 wickets respectively.
Pakistan could not impress with the ball either as New Zealand chased down the total inside 11 overs by losing a solitary wicket. As Pakistan looks to bounce back, we are taking a look at the Pakistan Playing 11 for the second T20I.
Pakistan Playing 11 vs New Zealand- 2nd T20I, Pakistan tour of New Zealand 2025:
Openers: Mohammad Haris (wk), Hasan Nawaz
Mohammad Haris and Hasan Nawaz are set to be the openers in the Pakistan Playing 11 for the second game. Even though both the batters failed to open their account in the previous game, they are expected to retain their spots in the Pakistan Playing 11.
Middle-order batsmen and allrounders: Salman Agha (c), Irfan Khan, Shadab Khan, Abdul Samad, Khushdil Shah, Jahandad Khan
With Pakistan staring down the barrel, the onus will be on their captain Salman Agha to lead the team from the front. After starting his tenure as Pakistan's T20I with a dismal loss, Agha will be desperate to turn things around in the second game.
The likes of Irfan Khan, Shadab Khan, and Abdul Samad could not deliver with the bat either as all of them were out for single-digit scores. Irfan scored 1, Shadab scored 3 while Samad scored 7. Shadab could not deliver with the ball either as he gave away 18 runs in 2 overs.
Khushdil Shah was the top-scorer for Pakistan, scoring 32 runs. He is one of the experienced players in the current team and will be eyeing a big score in the second T20I too.
Jahandad Khan will be one of the all-rounders in the Pakistan Playing 11. In the first game, he scored 17 runs but could not take any wickets.
Bowlers: Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Ali, Abrar Ahmed
Just like Pakistan's batsmen, Pakistan's bowlers also struggled to make an impact. However, the bowlers are unlikely to face the axe after just one match and are set to retain their spots in the Pakistan Playing 11.
Left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi will be leading the pace attack with Mohammad Ali as his bowling partner. Afridi conceded 17 runs in his 2 overs and did not get any wickets. On the other hand, Ali, who was making his T20I debut, gave away 25 runs in 3 overs. If Pakistan indeed decides to change the bowling lineup, Ali is likely to make way for either Haris Rauf or Abbas Afridi.
Abrar Ahmed will be leading the spin attack in the Pakistan Playing 11. He was the only Pakistan bowler to take a wicket in the first T20I and will look to deliver with the ball in the second game as well.
