Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is unlikely to participate in the second edition of the International League T20 (ILT20) due to issues with payment terms and image rights. Reportedly, Babar Azam was offered a contract worth PKR 150 million for the upcoming season.
According to Cricket Pakistan, Babar Azam was also being considered as a potential ambassador for the league. However, the right-handed batter is expected to take part in the Bangladesh Premier League, which is set to commence on January 10th, during his free time.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not issue No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players to participate in the inaugural edition. However, Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, and Azam Khan are set to represent the Desert Vipers in the upcoming season between January 19 and February 18.
Shaheen Afridi Set To Represent Desert Vipers In Next Season
The Desert Vipers signed Shaheen Afridi to a three-year contract for the ILT20 league, offering him $400,000 along with additional compensation for image rights. He can earn approximately 150 million rupees each year, making him the league’s top earner for three consecutive years.
The Desert Vipers have announced their preparations for the highly anticipated second edition of the league, following the success of the inaugural season.
“All-format Pakistan superstar Shaheen Shah Afridi spearheads the new players signings list for the DP World ILT20 Season 2. The fast bowler who has made a stunning impression around the world with his pacy left-arm deliveries (229 wickets in 161 T20s) will play for the inaugural season’s finalists Desert Vipers,” it stated.

I Am Excited To Join The Desert Vipers – Shaheen Afridi
Shaheen Afridi expressed excitement to join the Deseret Vipers in the ILT20. He led the Lahore Qalandars to back-to-back title triumphs in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“I am excited to join the Desert Vipers. I know there are many Pakistan cricket fans in the UAE, and I hope they will support our team in the upcoming DP World ILT20,” Shaheen said.
The inaugural edition of ILT20 featured teams like the Dubai Capitals, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, MI Emirates, Sharjah Warriors, Gulf Giants, and Vipers. The Gulf Giants, led by Colin Munro, emerged victorious by defeating the Vipers in the final on February 12 this year.
