Pakistan squad for Asia Cup 2025 announced; Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan DISCARDED

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming T20I Tri-Series involving UAE and Afghanistan as well as the Asia Cup 2025. Salman Ali Agha will continue to serve as Pakistan National Cricket Team captain in the shorter format of the game.
There were speculations that senior pros Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan would be recalled to the T20I side, but the Pakistan selectors stuck to their strategy and picked the exciting young talents for the upcoming T20I Tri-Series and the Asia Cup 2025.
Pakistan name 17-member squad for Asia Cup 2025 and T20I Tri-Series
Pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi, fiery fast bowler Haris Rauf, and dependable batters like Fakhar Zaman and Khushdil Shah have been the only senior players who earned the selectors’ trust for the upcoming challenges. Additionally, star wicket-keeper Mohammad Haris retained his spot.

The selectors have also shown faith in young names like Hasan Nawaz, Salman Mirza, and Sufyan Moqim for the upcoming T20I Tri-Series, starting on 29 August at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, and the Asia Cup 2025 next month in the UAE.
The PCB said in an official press release: “The Men’s National Selection Committee has announced Pakistan squads for the upcoming T20I tri-series and Asia Cup scheduled to take place in the UAE from 29 August to 28 September. The tri-series, featuring Afghanistan, Pakistan and UAE will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from 29 August to 7 September.
The eight-team ACC Asia Cup T20I tournament will be staged in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 9 to 28 September. Pakistan are placed in Group ‘A’ alongside India, Oman and UAE.”

Salman Ali Agha (C), Mohammad Haris (WK), Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Waseem Jnr., Sahibzada Farhan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufyan Moqim, Saim Ayub, and Salman Mirza.

29 August: Afghanistan vs Pakistan at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi
30 August: UAE vs Pakistan at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi
1 September: UAE vs Afghanistan at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi
2 September: Pakistan vs Afghanistan at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi
4 September: Pakistan vs UAE at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi
5 September: Afghanistan vs UAE at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi
7 September: Final at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi
Well, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the hosts of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, have selected Abu Dhabi and Dubai as the two venues for the tournament that will be played in the T20 format.

However, Pakistan will play all of their group matches in Dubai, except for only the Super Four game that will be decided later and depends on the opponent side.
