Amidst the Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has called for India to face suspension from the International Cricket Council (ICC) events. The drama unfolded after the Indian cricket team refused to accept the trophy and awards from Mohsin Naqvi.
Mohsin Naqvi is currently serving as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), apart from holding the positions of the Interior Minister in the current Pakistan Government, as well as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The ACC chairman has many times given anti-India statements, even during the Asia Cup 2025.
Rashid Latif calls for India’s suspension after the Asia Cup 2025 Trophy controversy
Given the cross-border and political tension between India and Pakistan, the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian cricket team has decided not to receive the Asia Cup trophy and winner’s medals from Naqvi despite him being the ACC chief, disrupting the presentation ceremony.
However, the individual player awards were handed out, but the Indian team deliberately avoided acknowledging the ACC chief in public, further intensifying tensions. According to the media reports, they were also not ready to share the podium with the PCB chairman.
Well, India requested another ACC official or Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to complete the ceremony, but the Pakistan minister remained stubborn and took the trophy and medals to his hotel. Still, Naqvi has not delivered them to India, and the BCCI is trying everything to get the silverware back.
Rashid Latif calls India's move ‘Ugly Day for Cricket’
Meanwhile, Rashid Latif slammed India for refusing to receive the award from the ACC chairman, calling it a serious breach of cricketing etiquette and an “ugly day” for cricket. He also argued that in most sports, such defiance would lead to immediate disciplinary action.
Rashid Latif posted, “The Indian cricket team is a good candidate for suspension from the ICC after refusing to collect the #AsiaCup2025 trophy and awards from the ACC Chairman. In any other sport, this would have been an open and shut case.”

Former Pakistan captain claims ICC will stay silent over
But Latif claimed that the ICC would remain silent in the Asia Cup trophy controversy, as the governing body is now run by the Indians. He highlighted the significant presence of Indian officials in the governing body, especially the former BCCI secretary Jay Shah is now the chief.
Latif further said, “But with the ICC chairman, CEO, CFO, commercial chief, and head of events and communications being Indians, suspension seems unlikely. Ugly day for cricket as India once again breached the spirit and essence of the gentleman’s game, and that too in broad daylight.”

Indian officials at the ICC
Currently, the top positions at the ICC are held by the Indians. Jay Shah is presently serving as the ICC chairman, while Sanjog Gupta is the chief executive officer (CEO).
The current Chief Commercial Officer for the ICC is Anurag Dahiya, while Ankur Khanna is currently serving as the CFO. Additionally, Gaurav Saxena is the General Manager of Events and Corporate Communications at the ICC.
Despite this, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was recently fined 30% of his match fees for dedicating India’s seven-wicket win over Pakistan in an Asia Cup 2025 group match to the Indian army and victims of the tragic Pahalgam attack in April 2025.
