'Part of preparation for Champions Trophy' - Fans thrilled as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Harshit Rana make their ODI debut

India sprung out huge surprises just before the first ODI against England in Nagpur as two youngsters received their ODI debuts. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was finally handed his maiden ODI cap after having successful outings in Tests and T20Is.

Along with Jaiswal, fast bowler Harshit Rana was also handed his maiden ODI cap. While it was the captain Rohit Sharma who presented Jaiswal with his maiden ODI cap, Harshit Rana's cap was given by the veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami.

The social media was buzzing after two surprise debuts of both these young cricketers. The users anticipated whether India is preparing for the upcoming Champions Trophy by giving chances to these youngsters.

Yashasvi Jaiswal replaces Virat Kohli

It was a great moment for both the youngsters as they finally received their ODI caps. While Rana was expected to make his ODI debut soon, the move to include Jaiswal was surprising at the start.

Later, it became more clear that Virat Kohli's injury made the way for Jaiswal to come into the Playing XI. He is slotted to open the batting along side his captain Rohit Sharma.

With Jaiswal opening the batting, Shubman Gill will slot in the middle order. It is expected that Kohli's injury isn't serious and he will be back in the next match.

Jaiswal has a good List A record with over 1500 runs at an average of 54. The left-hander can stake a claim in India's Playing XI for Champions Trophy by making runs in this match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana's numbers in international cricket

Yashasvi Jaiswal has an exceptional Test record with 1798 runs in 19 Tests at an average of 52.88 with 4 hundreds and 10 fifties. He had an exceptional 2024 as a Test batter and emerged as the second-highest run-getter after Joe Root.

Recently, he emerged as India's highest run-scorer in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 391 runs in five Tests at an average of 43.44.

Jaiswal has also played 23 T20Is along side his 19 Tests. He has a good record in the shortest format as well where he has scored 723 runs in 23 matches at an average of 36.15 and a strike rate of 164.31.

Meanwhile, Harshit Rana shared the new ball with the veteran Mohammed Shami. Rana has played 2 Tests so far and picked up 4 wickets at an average of 50.75. Both the Tests came in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Rana has played just a solitary T20I so far and picked up three wickets. He has the ability bowl at impressive speeds which makes him a lethal option for any format of the game.
