The 2026 T20 World Cup has been underway. On Sunday, during the last match of the day between Sri Lanka and Ireland, former India captain Anil Kumble and wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel were seen sharing the commentary box for Star Sports. Both cricketers during the match had a funny take on each other after anchor Anant Tyagi asked a question to Anil Kumble.
Anant Tyagi asked Anil Kumble if he made any rules during his coaching tenure. The former also asked if there was a punishment for coming late during his captaincy and coaching stint with India and the Indian Premier League (IPL) time as well.
Was Anil Kumble strict as India's head coach?
Anant Tyagi asked, “In playing time, Anil bhai, if someone comes late or does not follow his call time, was there any punishment? Like we have seen during IPL that you have to go to the airport in a night suit, etc. We saw it in the MI camp, for instance.”
Anil Kumble replied, saying, “No, no, we used to leave it and go. You will have to bring your own transport. And that was it. Nothing else.” Parthiv, in reply, said, “But when Anil bhai was a coach, he brought a rule in the team.”
Anil Kumble replied to Parthiv said, “I didn't bring the rule, but everyone brought it. I was just a facilitator. Nothing else. You brought a rule that you will have to speak in one language only.”

Kumble reflects on the punishments imposed on the team
Anil Kumble, reflecting on the punishments that were imposed, said, “You will not speak in your regional language. When we go out as a team, how we dress or whatever the team's style is, it is decided by the whole team. It was agreed that whatever money we collect, it will go to charity. And that was it. Nothing else. And Pujara, he was the treasurer. And also the enforcer.”
“Because he used to come on time. If we made a mistake in the team dress, it was fine. As Parthiv said, if the team did not do what it wanted, it was fine. So all this was a joke.”
Parthiv Patel in the midst of everything
Parthiv Patel, earlier in the day, during the England vs Nepal game, was seen taking a funny jab at Babar Azam for playing with a slow strike rate. He, alongside Aakash Chopra, had a funny conversation over the batter that reminded the latter of when it comes to playing slow innings in T20I cricket.
Parthiv Patel, Aakash Chopra, and Kumble are all part of the commentary panel for the ongoing T20 World Cup and will be seen having more funny conversations during mid-innings, pre-match show, and post-match show as well. Along with them are several other former India cricketers and anchors, like Virender Sehwag, Irfan Pathan, Dinesh Karthik, Varun Aaron, Jatin Sapru, and Anant Tyagi.
India will be taking on Namibia in their upcoming game on 12th February at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.
