Australia captain Pat Cummins revealed that they have plans to counter India’s spin bowling threat in the upcoming match in the ICC World Cup 2023. Pat Cummins said that the players have familiarity with conditions in India due to the IPL and international cricket.

The Pat Cummins-led team will lock horns with the Rohit Sharma-led team in the first match of the World Cup at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8. The hosts are expected to field three spinners, considering the slow and turning track.

We Know Conditions Really Very Well – Pat Cummins

Speaking ahead of the high-voltage match against India, Pat Cummins mentioned that they have played more white-ball cricket in India than in Australia in the last decade.

“It’s no doubt helpful playing a lot here, not only for Australia but IPL. I’ve probably played more white-ball cricket in India than I have in Australia over the last 10 years, so it’s conditions we know really well.

“And I think the positive thing is that we’ve played some really good one-day cricket against India over here over the last few years so we can draw back on that,” said Cummins.

The Australian cricket team participated in two bilateral ODI series in India this year. They visited for an ODI series in March, which they won 2-1. However, they faced a setback last month, losing a three-match series 1-2 just before the World Cup.

They’re Going To Be Challenging – Pat Cummins

The Australian skipper acknowledged that India’s spinners can be challenging, especially on home turf in Chennai. He mentioned that the Australian batters have their own plans, having faced India’s spinners on multiple occasions.

“Yeah, they’re a good bowling lineup, especially here in home conditions. So, they’re going to be challenging. The good thing is we’ve played them a lot.

“So, our batters will have their own plans. And again, we’ve had success against them a few times. They’ve bowled well against us a few times as well,” Cummins added.
