Australian pace-bowling superstar Pat Cummins has recalled his comments on Indian captain Virat Kohli which proceeded to send social media into a frenzy.

Ahead of India’s 2018-19 tour of Australia, Pat Cummins had made a tongue-in-cheek comment where he had said that Virat Kohli wouldn’t make many runs and that he and his fellow pacers will knock him over cheaply

“I think Virat Kohli’s not going to get a hundred and we’re going to knock ’em off over here,” Pat Cummins had said at the time.

Pat Cummins, during his latest interview on the Grade Cricketers Podcast, recalled how his comment sent social media into a frenzy with fans alleging that the fast bowler was doubting Kohli’s credentials when in fact, he was just acknowledging the class of the batsman.

”If you live on social media at all, you get absolutely hounded. Say anything about Virat Kohli and look out for the next years. I remember I said something a few years ago. It was actually… I thought it was a bit of a compliment,” he added.

Six months later, Virat Kohli smashed an imperious hundred on a bouncy Perth track and Cummins recalled that his phone blew up.

‘He’s a great player. Hope he doesn’t score a hundred because he’s a gun player’. Virat scored a century six months later and my phone just blew up. They (The Indian Media) have got a long memory,” Cummins said.

Pat Cummins and Virat Kohli will once again lock horns against each other in the 14h edition of the Indian Premier League.
