PBKS vs CSK Match Preview- IPL 2024, Match 53

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings are peaking at the right time having won the last two games. Everything has clicked beautifully for the side in the last two games.

The leadership has been pinpointed and Jonny Bairstow has not allowed the team to feel the absence of Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order. The batters did their job in the last two games and should look to keep up the form.

The biggest plus for PBKS in the last match against CSK with Rahul Chahar's return to form. He tamed MS Dhoni in the 19th over as he did not allow him to hit any boundaries. The spin twins will be Punjab's biggest positive heading into the next match.

PBKS Squad

Shikhar Dhawan (c), Matthew Short, Prabhsimran Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Sikandar Raza, Rishi Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Atharva Taide, Arshdeep Singh, Nathan Ellis, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, Harpreet Brar, Rahul Chahar, Harpreet Bhatia, Vidwath Kaverappa, Shivam Singh, Harshal Patel, Chris Woakes, Ashutosh Sharma, Vishwanath Pratap Singh, Shashank Singh, Tanay Thyagarajann, Prince Choudhary, Rilee Rossouw

Chennai Super Kings

CSK lost their their last two games. The last defeat to Punjab Kings was their second straight loss at home In the last three games they have lost two games and won one.

They are still placed fourth on the table but there are a lot of loopholes in this team. The skipper is not winning tosses and losing the advantage early. He has scored runs with the bat but the rest of the batters have failed to back him up.

Their bowling looks weak now with the recent injury to Deepak Chahar. He bowled just two balls in the match and then limped off CSK coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that his injury was serious and would miss the next match. Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali are not being as consistent.

The Fizz might well play his last game of the season in the next match and so might Pathirana as they will have to return for national duties. In the final leg of the league stage, CSK have to get their combination right.

CSK Squad

Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajay Mandal, Mukesh Choudhary, Ajinkya Rahane, Shaik Rasheed, Mitchell Santner, Simarjeet Singh, Nishant Sindhu, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana, Rachin Ravindra, Shardul Thakur, Daryl Mitchell, Sameer Rizvi, Mustafizur Rahman, Avanish Rao Aravelly

PBKS vs CSK Key Battles

Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Arshdeep Singh

The two will come face to face once again in the next match. Arsdeep did dismiss Gaikwad in the last game but by then he had already scored 62. This time the left-arm pacer will look to dismiss him early.

Jonny Bairstow vs Mustafizur Rahman

With Deepak Chahar unlikely to play in the next match, the Fizz will need to take the responsibility of dismissing Bairstow early. He scored 46 off 30 balls and gave PBKS the quick start they required in the chase in the last game.

Shivam Dube vs Harpreet Brar/ Rahul Chahar

Dube is a specialist six-hitter in the middle-order for CSK. He was dismissed off the first ball by Harpreet Brar in the previous game. In this match too, he will need to cope with the spin twins.

PBKS vs CSK Key Players

After the last game, PBKS will heavily depend on Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, and the spin twins Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar to replicate their performance.

CSK will back on their senior players, led by skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Mustafizur Rahman and a certain MS Dhoni to make an impact on the game. Deepak Chaha is unlikely to play the next game after hobbling off in Chennai.

PBKS vs CSK Weather and Pitch Report

This is the first match of the season to be played in Dharamsala. Thus nothing much can be said about the kind of wickets teams are likely to get. However, generally, Dharamala as a venue had aided fast bowlers with the seam and swing movement off the wicket and has good bounce and carry.

Talking about the weather, there is a 60 percent chance of rain in the daytime. The match starts at 3.30 pm IST and is likely to be interrupted by rain. The weather is expected to clear out by the evening. In case it rains, we can have a delayed start.

Conclusion

CSK are placed fourth on the points table while PBKS is seventh on the points table heading into this game. However, Punjab Kings looks the more settled of the two sides at this point with CSK struggling with injuries to key players. Previously CSK coach Stephen Fleming said that CSK is yet to find the right combination.
