Punjab Kings (PBKS) suffered a significant setback as leg-spinner Rahul Chahar walked off the field due to injury during the ongoing match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Rahul Chahar injured his jaw during the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in Dharamsala on May 5.
Punjab skipper Sam Curran chose to bowl after winning the toss at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. The home team picked the same team from the previous match. CSK made two changes: Mitchell Santner and Tushar Deshpande replaced Deepak Chahar and Mustafizur Rahman.
The visiting team got off to a solid start, despite the early loss of Ajinkya Rahane, who scored nine runs off seven balls. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell formed a crucial partnership for the second wicket. The Chennai team had a strong finish to the powerplay, reaching 69/1 after seven overs.
Rahul Chahar dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad on his first ball of the spell. Gaikwad nicked the ball to the wicketkeeper, where Jitesh Sharma completed a sharp catch. Chahar dismissed dangerous batter Shivam Dube on his second delivery, leaving the Super Kings in a challenging position at 69/3 after 7.2 overs.
