Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel has slammed Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Glenn Maxwell for being the most overrated player ever in IPL history.

Parthiv Patel made these comments while speaking to Jio Cinema after the Bengaluru-based outfit defeated the Gujarat Titans by 4 wickets last night. RCB were chasing down a low total of 148 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy but the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green among others got out poorly.

Why did Parthiv Patel specifically target Glenn Maxwell?

The Royal Challengers were not chasing a 200+ total in front of home fans. They were just trying to chase down 148. However, with the way their middle-order operated, it looked as if they were in a hurry to score runs in order to keep the run rate ticking. After the departure of Faf du Plessis for 64, Will Jacks was the first to display that hurry.

Jacks, who had scored 100* off 41 in the same fixture last week, handed an easy catch to Shahrukh Khan to become Noor Ahmed's 1st scalp. Up next was Rajat Patidar. After taking 2 singles off his first 2 balls, Patidar tried to pull one away off Joshua Little but he ended up finding David Miller in the deep mid-wicket region.

RCB went from 92/1 to 103/3 within a flash and then came the dangerous Australian Glenn Maxwell. The Big Show's bat has remained extremely quiet in IPL 2024 as he has struggled to find form as well as rhythm. He hasn't looked like the Maxwell from the 2022 and 2023 season.

But last night, Glenn Maxwell had a very good opportunity to come back in form or at least make his team win through singles and doubles. Only 45 runs were required off almost 13 overs when Maxwell walked in.

It would have been a matter of singles and doubles with Virat Kohli but Glenn Maxwell had uncanny plans. Instead of stitching a partnership for a win, the 2021 T20 World Cup winner decided to go for the same shot as Patidar did and also ended up having the same fate.

Glenn Maxwell picked out David Miller at mid-wicket and an easy chance to make amends went begging. Maxwell might have wanted to smear balls away and make RCB win early to boost the net run rate but that could have been done through 1s and 2s as well.

Maxwell's 2-minute presence at the crease intrigued former RCB wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel to label him as the most overrated IPL batter ever.

"glenn maxwell….HE IS THE MOST OVERRATED player in the history of ipl…#IPL2024 …." - Parthiv Patel wrote on X.

RCB jump from 10th to 7th in IPL 2024 table

Meanwhile, with the 4-wicket win over Gujarat Titans last night, RCB jumped 3 spots from 10th to 7th in the IPL 2024 points table. It was their 4th victory of the season and they have 8 points to their name. They are above 8th, 9th, and 10th placed Punjab, Gujarat, and Mumbai because of their net run rate of -0.049.
