Renowned commentator Ian Bishop opened up about young Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Atharva Taide for his knock in the 64th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Delhi Capitals (DC). He feels that it’ll be learning for him and it’ll make him a better player.

Punjab Kings suffered a heartbreaking 15-run loss against Delhi Capitals in their penultimate game of the IPL 2023. The loss almost dented their chances to qualify for the playoffs and now they’ll be dependent on the other teams for their qualification.

While chasing the target of 214 runs, PBKS had a poor start as they lost wickets early. But Atharva Taide and Liam Livingstone brought them back into the game. With the way the English batter was going, it seemed that the hosts might end up winning.

But Livingstone didn’t get the desired support. Even Atharva Taide, who scored a half-century, struggled to time the ball and consumed a lot of deliveries. This led Punjab Kings to retire him out at the end of the 15th over of the innings to pave the way for Jitesh Sharma.

Although Atharva Taide was lauded by his teammates but he looked upset with himself as he walked back to the dressing room. He scored 55 runs in 42 balls with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Ian Bishop while calling Atharva Taide a young guy highlighted that it would’ve been tough for him to soak this but he’ll only become a better player from this. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he said:

“Taide is a young guy. He has been in and out of the team, and perhaps, went out when he should’ve been in. Like Nehal Wadhera last night, he will learn from this, and it will make him a better player. I don’t want anybody to go hard at him. Tough for a young kid learning his game.”

PBKS vs DC: “We lost six balls there” – Shikhar Dhawan

PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan opened up about the loss his side suffered. He went on to say that have been leaking runs in the powerplay and also touted the first maiden over as a big factor behind their loss.

He added: “We should bowl at the right areas and we couldn’t do that. Every powerplay, we have been giving 50-60 runs. We knew that it’d swing for 1-2 overs. We lost the first wicket in the 2nd over and the 1st over was also a maiden – we lost six balls there.”

Punjab Kings (PBKS) will be next seen in action when they will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their next game on Friday (19th May).
