Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh sees a future Indian captain in the 23-year-old Rishabh Pant, who has scaled great heights in the past few months. From being outside of the eleven to now a crucial member of the side across formats, the youngster has gone from strength to strength in a space of few months.
Yuvraj Singh now has even touted the Uttarakhand-born wicketkeeper to lead the national side one day. He pointed out that Pant captained the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2021, in absence of the injured Shreyas Iyer, and led the side to the top of the table, with 6 wins in 8 matches, before the tournament was suspended. Pant has also captained the Delhi domestic side in Ranji Trophy in the past.
“I also see Rishabh pant as a potential Indian captain in the future. Because he is jumpy, chirpy, and talks around. But I feel he surely has a smart brain as well, because I saw him when he was captaining in the IPL for Delhi Capitals. He did an incredible job. So, people should look at him as the next captain of the Indian team in the coming years,” Yuvraj Singh told Times of India.
He is very mature and he is a find for India: Yuvraj Singh
On Rishabh Pant’s fearless style of play, Yuvraj Singh, who was also renowned for his belligerent hitting, observed that the youngster has matured over time and now doesn’t get out playing as rash shot as often as he earlier used to.
He talks about Pant’s couple of phenomenal Test series – away in Australia and at home against England as the youngster entered himself in the history books.
“I am very glad, that you are saying he is very mature and he is a find for India because I felt he got a lot of criticism after the ways he got out. I totally agree with you, Rishabh Pant has proven that he is a match-winner in tough conditions like Australia, the way he batted and the way he got a brilliant hundred against England as well. He is probably a key player in the middle order,” the two-time World Cup winner added.
