Phil Salt Reaches Career-Best T20I Rating After Record Tons Against West Indies

The England vs West Indies T20I series helped the players of both teams make huge gains in the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings. At one end, English batsman Phil Salt slammed hundreds in the third and fourth matches of the series and helped his team cross the line. However, despite Salt’s hundred, the visitors could not win the contest against the Caribbean and lost the series by 3-2.

While Phil Salt was adjudged the Player of the Series, he slammed 331 runs from five matches and also made a major jump in the ICC Men’s T20I Batsmen Rankings. Salt made a jump of 18 places and helped him secure a career-best second spot with rating points of 802. He is now only behind world number one T20I batsman Suryakumar Yadav, sitting at the top with 887 rating points.

Phil Salt and other England players make huge gains in T20I rankings

Phil Salt’s teammate Liam Livingstone played innings of 54 and 30 runs during the third and fourth T20I matches against West Indies, which helped him make a jump of 27 places, and is currently placed in the 38th spot. Livingstone also jumped in the all-rounder category and is now placed in the eighth spot with 132 rating points.

West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hossein played a major role in West Indies’ victory in the fifth T20I match and ended the game with figures of 2/20 in four overs. Hossein took over Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga in the ICC Men’s T20I Bowler Rankings and is now placed in the fourth spot with 683 rating points. He is followed by Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana.

West Indies’ Gudakesh Motie was the Player of the Match in the fifth WI vs ENG T20I match as he broke the backbone of the English batting lineup and ended the match with figures of 3/24. Motie made a jump of 75 spots and is placed in the 91st position.

England’s Reece Topley has claimed the tenth spot with five wickets from two games in the past week, which helped him make a jump of 13 positions.

Some changes occurred in the ODI rankings as well after the conclusion of the New Zealand vs Bangladesh and India vs South Africa series.

Bangladesh’s Shoriful Islam displayed a fine performance in the ODI series against the Kiwis which helped him make a gain of 24 positions and claim a 35th spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Bowler Rankings. India’s Arshdeep Singh grabbed a fifer in the first match of the SA vs IND ODI series and made a major jump of 41 spots, however, he is yet to enter the top 100 mark.

Analysing the changes in the ICC Men’s ODI Batsman Ranking, Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar’s ton during the ODI series against the Kiwis helped him make a jump of 52 spots whereas India’s Sanju Samson’s 108 run knock during the third IND vs SA ODI match helped him make a gain of 54 spots and 408 rating points.

Sanju Samson’s ton during the third ODI match against South Africa helped the Indian team beat the Proteas by 106 runs and take the series 2-1.
