"Plenty of time for a result" - Mitchell Marsh confident of Australia's Gabba win despite rain threat

Australia allrounder Mitchell Marsh is confident of Australia's win over India despite the rain threat. Mitchell Marsh feels that there are still two days left in the match, which will be enough for Australia to push for a win.

The ongoing Test match between Australia and India at Gabba has been affected by rain since the first day. Only 13.2 overs could be bowled on the first day as rain played spoilsport and didn't allow the game to continue.

However, the second day was dry enough and allowed both the match to be continued. As the match was moving towards an interesting stage, the third day was again interrupted by continuous rain as most of the day was washed out.

Mitchell Marsh confident of Australia's win at Gabba

After the end of the third day's play, allrounder Mitchell Marsh was asked about the chances of having a result in the Test match. Marsh was confident of Australia's victory with two more days remaining. He reckons that there is still plenty of time left in the match which will be enough to force a result.

"We're always asking for the radar and what's happening. Two days to go, I think there's still plenty of time for a result," Mitchell Marsh was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia.

Mitchell Marsh hasn't had much to do in the ongoing Test so far. He was dismissed for just 5 by Jasprit Bumrah and had the lowest score among the top nine batters of Australia's batting line-up.

Can Australia push for a follow-on?

Meanwhile, Australia can push for an innings victory by not allowing India to cross the follow-on target. The Men in Blue still require 194 runs to avoid the follow-on which won't be an easy task from here on.

India finished Day 3 at 51-4 and are still 394 runs behind Australia's first-innings score. They will require some serious work to be done from their captain Rohit Sharma if they are to come back into this match.

Remaining batters for India

Rohit Sharma is yet to open his account and has played 6 balls so far. KL Rahul is batting alongside him and is looking solid. Rahul looked the most assured batter for India on Day 3 and is unbeaten on 33 off 64 balls. Apart from him, no other Indian batter even crossed the double-digit mark on the third day.

With Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy to follow, India will believe that they still have some batting to reach a respectable first-innings total. While Reddy has looked in great batting form this series, it will be Jadeja's first match of the series.

The five-match Test series is currently level at 1-1 with India winning the first match in Perth and Australia taking the second one in Adelaide. The next two Tests will be played in Melbourne and Sydney respectively.
