Pooja Vastrakar, a fast bowler, is expected to join the team after recovering from Covid-19, which will be a huge boost for the Indian women’s cricket team at the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

She must be available for the team’s last group match against Barbados on August 3 after returning a supposedly negative test.

India lost by just three wickets to Australia in their opening match of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. After Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper scored a brash fifty, Renuka Thakur’s destructive spell of 4/18 was ineffective as Ashleigh Gardner’s unbeaten 52 aided Australia in achieving the challenging total of 155.

Despite putting on an excellent performance overall, Harmanpreet & Co. fell short of the finish line. However, they will try to atone for their mistake when they play Pakistan on Sunday in their subsequent group round match. Edgbaston will be packed when Harmanpreet Kaur and Bismah Maroof led their respective teams onto the field for the eagerly awaited match.

If any of them wins, there is still a possibility for a medal, while the losing team is on the verge of being eliminated from the competition.

Pooja Vastrakar will soon fly to Birmingham:

Following a positive virus test, Vastrakar was placed in quarantine in Bengaluru. A day after the India team’s departure for the Commonwealth Games on Monday, a source from the Indian Olympics Association (IOA) said S Meghana and Vastrakar had returned positive tests.

Vastrakar will soon fly to Birmingham and make the squad before the last group stage match, according to the most recent tweet from Women’s CricZone.

“Pooja Vastrakar will join the Indian team in Birmingham, and she will be available for the final group game against Barbados on August 3,” the tweet read.

The Indian women’s cricket team will square off against Pakistan in their Group A match at the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Sunday after losing to Australia in their opening game.
