The India vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test is going on at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground (SSC) in Colombo. On Day 2 of the match, Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, who was sent in as a nightwatchman, was dismissed on the very last ball of the day, and he became furious after being given out.

India have already taken a lead in the Test series as they won the first game by 165 runs. The visitors have been dominating in the second Test as well. They scored 503/9 and declared the innings, and Sri Lanka are still trailing by 301 runs in the match. India will look to bowl out the home side as soon as possible.

Prabath Jayasuriya handed one demerit point

During day 2 of the second match, after Prabath Jayasuriya was out on the last ball of the day, he went back to the dressing room furiously and threw the gloves inside the dressing room. After that incident, he had breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

Article 2.2 states that “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.” He was also given one demerit point to his disciplinary record, for which it was the first offence in 24 months. Prabath Jayasuriya, after being dismissed, hit the toblerone with his bat on his way back to the pavilion.

Prabath Jayasuriya accepted guilt

The Sri Lanka spinner accepted his guilt while he was questioned by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. As a result, there was no formal hearing as on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Rod Tucker, and fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella levelled the charge.

He became the third player in the match to be reprimanded, as previously, Yashasvi Jaiswal and pacer Asitha Fernando were punished by the apex board for their physical altercation inside the ground. They were involved in a heated exchange that turned physical after the India opener was dismissed for 45 runs by Fernando on day 1 of the Test match.

India dominates the 2nd Test

Coming to the match, India, after winning the toss, opted to bat first, as two batters, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel, scored centuries, with the former playing a knock of 117 runs, while Jurel was unbeaten with a score of 115*. Apart from them, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant scored fifties respectively. They scored 50 and 63 respectively as India posted 503/9.

For Sri Lanka, Asitha Fernando was the pick of the bowlers as he picked four wickets, with Prabath Jayasuriya and Keshara Nuwantha picking two wickets each.

After a late declaration from the Men in Blue on Monday, Sri Lanka just batted for three overs; they were also furious due to bad light. However, the umpire kept the game on, as they lost two wickets in the process for just 8 runs. Now, after a fighting 80 from Pasindu Sooriyabandara and a fifty from Sonal Dinusha have kept them in the game as they are 216/7.
