The 29-year-old India National Cricket Team pacer Prasidh Krishna has hit a historic low following his performances in the first two Test matches of the series against the England National Cricket Team.
Prasidh Krishna is currently taking part in the second Test against the England National Cricket Team, which is underway at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Prasidh Krishna taken to cleaners by England batters
The tall Karnataka pacer Krishna is yet to deliver an impressive performance for India in the red-ball format since making his debut in December 2023 against South Africa.
Krishna has received good backing from the selectors and team management to deliver for India in Test cricket, mainly because he is a hit-the-deck bowler who can bowl with a good pace.
However, Prasidh Krishna has been quite wayward with his lines and lengths and has been very expensive in the limited number of matches he has played.
In the Test series opener against England at Headingley in Leeds, Krishna leaked 128 and 92 runs across two innings while picking up 3 and 2 wickets at an economy of 6.40 and 6.13.
Speaking after the match, he expressed his desire to improve his economy rate and started off well in the Edgbaston Test, conceding just 20 runs off his first five overs.
However, the Karnataka pacer was demolished by the English wicketkeeper-batsman Jamie Smith in the 32nd over of the innings and ended up conceding 23 runs in the over.
Most expensive over for India in Tests since 2000:
27 runs - Harbhajan Singh vs Pakistan, Lahore, 2006
25 runs - Munaf Patel vs West Indies, Basseterre, 2006
24 runs - Karn Sharma vs Australia, Adelaide, 2014
23 runs - Prasidh Krishna vs England, Birmingham, 2025*
22 runs - Irfan Pathan vs Pakistan, Faisalabad, 2006
In 8 overs before lunch, he conceded 61 runs at an economy of 7.62 while going wicketless. Currently, he has an economy rate of 5.28 in Test cricket, which is the worst among the pacers who have bowled a minimum of 500 balls in the 148-year history of Test cricket.
Worst Economy Rate in Tests (Min. 500 Balls):
5.28 - Prasidh Krishna
4.77 - Varun Aaron
4.66 - Zahir Khan
4.63 - Aamer Jamal
4.59 - Nahid Rana
England are still way behind - Stuart Broad
At Lunch, England were in a good position in the match with 249/5 in 47 overs and Harry Brook (91*) alongside Jamie Smith (102*) unbeaten in the middle.
Speaking on Sky Sports, the pace-bowling legend Stuart Broad said that India are still in control and England are far behind in the match. He said:
"When Smith came in, WinViz had England at one per cent. That's as low as you can get and as far behind in the game you can be.
"It's been an amazing partnership from Smith and Brook but England are still way behind in this game. India are still controlling everything."
