The Shubman Gill-led India A team suffered a major setback a day before the start of the Duleep Trophy 2024, as the lanky pacer Prasidh Krishna was denied making a comeback to the action.
Krishna has reportedly been ruled out of the first Duleep Trophy 2024 game for India A on Wednesday, September 4.
Prasidh Krishna ruled out of Duleep Trophy 2024 opener
A Cricbuzz report claimed that the Indian pacer has not yet attained full match fitness, resulting in him missing India A’s first Duleep Trophy 2024 game against India B on Thursday, September 5, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
However, there is still no update about Krishna’s replacement for the game. The fast bowler underwent surgery in February on his left proximal quadriceps tendon and was undergoing his rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
The Karnataka pacer had earlier missed the entire IPL 2024, as he was recovering from the surgery, and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) had to change their plans by signing Sandeep Kumar for the season. He also missed the previous season for the same issue.
BCCI yet to provide update on Krishna's fitness
However, he was hoping to make a comeback with the upcoming red-ball tournament with an aim to earn his spot back in India’s Test squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Well, the BCCI, who recently named Ajay Ratra as the national selector, replacing Salil Ankola, has not yet shared any update on Krishna’s fitness or his availability for the next fixtures in the tournament. Notably, the pacer suffered a left quadriceps injury while bowling for Karnataka against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy earlier this year.
Krishna made his India debut in an ODI game against England in 2021 and then earned his T20I and Test caps in 2023 against Ireland and South Africa, respectively. The lanky pacer has so far represented India in 2 Tests, 17 ODIs, and 5 T20Is, taking 2, 29, and 8 wickets, respectively.

Well, India's domestic season will get underway with the Duleep Trophy 2024 on Thursday, September 5, and this tournament will also allow the national selection committee to select squads for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
