The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is on a collision course with the Indian Premier League (IPL) next year as well. Both leagues coincided this year due to the ICC Champions Trophy.
While the PSL is usually held in February-March, the window was assigned to the Champions Trophy this year. As a result, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had to conduct the T20 tournament in April-May while the IPL was going on too.
PSL lost the services of a number of players even after they were signed up by the teams, and is likely to face more exits if it collides with the IPL next year. If the tournament is held in the April-May window next year, Pakistan's home series against Zimbabwe will also have to be rescheduled.
According to reports in Pakistani media, there was a proposal to conduct the tournament in December this year. However, the plan is highly unlikely to be implemented because of the limited time. The report also added that during the December-January window, the PCB might hold the domestic Pentangular Cup.
PCB yet to decide on PSL window:
The PCB is yet to make a final call on the window for the 11th season of the PSL. Pakistan are scheduled to host Sri Lanka in November for three ODIs and as many T20Is. The December and January window has been kept open for domestic competitions by the PCB.
In February, Pakistan will host Australia for three T20Is before the T20 World Cup is played in February-March. After the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, Australia will return to Pakistan once again for three ODIs. Towards the end of the month, Pakistan are scheduled to visit Bangladesh for two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
It will be followed by the home series against Zimbabwe in April-May. In that case, it looks highly likely that the series against Zimbabwe will be postponed and the PSL will take place in April-May once again. Pakistani media outlets claim that the franchises are not too concerned about scheduling clashes with the IPL.
However, the broadcasters and the rights-holders are still concerned. The PCB is likely to take into account all the concerned parties' opinions before taking a final call.
