Former Indian batsman Rahul Dravid has agreed to apply for the role of Team India’s head coach. The details for the contract he is expected to sign haven’t been specified but the agreement was done in principle.

Earlier, Dravid had politely refused the offer of the coach. But according to Cricbuzz, things took a sharp turn last week following the terms offered by the BCCI. Dravid left for Dubai soon after, where he met with people in the top BCCI positions, like the Apex Council members.

It was a well-known fact that Dravid wasn’t keen on taking up the role of India’s head coach. His reservations regarding the job included the travelling part, where he’ll be on the road for a major part of the year. However, a long conversation with the office-bearers of BCCI seems to have changed Dravid’s mind.

BCCI had also made it clear that they were looking for an Indian coach to replace Ravi Shastri, whose contract ends in November. Dravid is quite clearly the frontrunner for the role, with all the experience he carries in the coaching department, having been with the NCA over the years.

Paras Mhambrey is expected to assist Rahul Dravid as the bowling coach

While the support staff hasn’t been finalized, Rahul Dravid’s trusted deputy, Paras Mhambrey might be joining as the bowling coach. Vikram Rathore, the current batting coach, is expected to continue his role during Dravid’s tenure.

It is only an assumption that Paras will get the job. As Dravid has been comfortable working with him, his name has been taken but he will have to apply for the role as well and will have to go through the same process,” a source was quoted as saying.

According to the Times of India, the contract that Dravid will sign will last for two years and also has the option of extension. Notably, Dravid hasn’t been assured of returning to the NCA as the head once his stint with the Indian team ends.
