India are scheduled to play their opening fixture against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Match between India vs Pakistan has high stakes: Ajit Agarkar

Pakistan hasn’t won against India in the World Cup fixture as they ended up losing 12 times, including five times in T20 WC itself.

Agarkar is of the opinion that because of their current form, Pakistan does not pose a big challenge to India but also warned the Men in Blue to not take their opponents lightly.

“The stakes are always high when India and Pakistan play together but going by Team India’s current form and taking the stats into consideration, I don’t think Pakistan will pose that much of a challenge,” Agarkar told Star Sports.

“Having said that, I don’t think we should take our neighbours lightly because cricket is a funny game, and things can change at any moment, especially in the T20 format,” he added.

India vs Pakistan rivalry always bring emotions: Ajit Agarkar

India won the inuaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007. India got the better of Pakistan twice in that edition including the thriller final match in Johannesburg where they defeated Shoaib Malik and his men by five runs.

Agarkar called India’s 2007 victorious campaign a dream tour.

“The entire tournament (2007 T20 World Cup) was a dream tour for us. We never thought a bunch of youngsters could achieve such a feat, that too against Pakistan. I think the India-Pakistan rivalry always brings a tidal wave of emotions and is one the most anticipated clash in the World Cup,” he concluded.

India will be playing against England (on October 18) and Australia (on October 20) in the warm up games before they take on Pakistan in their opening game.
