Former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev believes that newly-appointed head coach, Rahul Dravid, will do an even better job as a coach than he did while playing for the national team.
Dravid took over from Ravi Shastri as the head coach and also won his first assignment – a 3-match T20I series against New Zealand by a 3-0 margin. The Indian team is up against the Kiwis in the longest format now. Speaking about the possible impact Dravid can have, Kapil said:
“He’s a good man, a good cricketer. He will do a better job as a coach than as a cricketer because in cricket nobody has done better than him. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed. You can’t just judge one after his debut, you don’t go by one performance. Over a period of time, what Rahul will do, we will come to know. You only think positive.“
Kapil Dev names R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as two of the best all-rounders of this generation
Kapil Dev was highly rated as an all-rounder during his playing days and there were quite a few legendary counterparts as well. But when it comes to the current crop of cricketers, there are not many players better than Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, as per Kapil.
“I just go to watch cricket these days and enjoy the game. I don’t see from your perspective. My job is to enjoy the sport. I would say Ashwin, hats off to him.“
“Jadeja too… What a fabulous cricketer he is, but unfortunately, he has improved as a batter and come down as a bowler to me. When he started, he was a far better bowler but now he’s a far better batter. Every time India needs him, he will get runs. But he’s not performing as a bowler,” Kapil added.
After the retirement of Kapil Dev, India has struggled to find a suitable replacement for the legendary all-rounder. There have been many who have been tried and tested but none have been able to replicate the same level of performance.
