Rajat Patidar breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s massive record as PBKS crush RCB

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) might have suffered another embarrassing defeat, but their captain, Rajat Patidar, continued his good form in the ongoing IPL 2025. Rajat Patidar achieved a big milestone during the rain-curtailed IPL 2025 clash between RCB and Punjab Kings in Bengaluru.

The RCB captain became the second-fastest Indian to score 1000 runs in the IPL, and while doing so, Rajat Patidar broke the record of the legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar, who represented the Mumbai Indians throughout his Indian Premier League journey.

Patidar reached 1000 IPL runs in just 30 innings, while Tendulkar took 31 innings to reach the milestone. Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan is leading the chart. Having reached the mark in just 25 innings, Sudharsan is the fastest Indian batter to score 1000 runs in the IPL.

Patidar completed his 1000 runs in the third over of a rain-affected match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday (April 18). The RCB captain guided the Arshdeep Singh delivery in front of backward point for a quick single with Virat Kohli to reach the landmark.

Additionally, Rajat Patidar also became the third Indian player to score 1000+ runs for RCB in the IPL, joining Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal in the list. However, Patidar, who looked good, was eventually dismissed in the eighth over by Yuzvendra Chahal after scoring 28 runs from 18 balls.

RCB vs PBKS IPL 2025 Match Highlight

Notably, the RCB vs PBKS match, delayed by rain, was reduced to 14 overs per side, with PBKS winning the toss and choosing to bowl against the hosts. RCB had a tough time with the bat as they collapsed to 42 for 7 against the PBKS at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

It was Tim David who rescued the Bengaluru team with a fighting half-century, helping them reach 95 for 9 in their 14 overs. For Punjab Kings, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Marco Jansen, and Harpreet Brar were excellent with the ball, taking two wickets each against the RCB.

Chasing 96, PBKS also struggled and lost quick wickets. But Nehal Wadhera played a quick cameo of 33 runs from just 19 balls to guide his team to the five-wicket win in the IPL 2025 clash. For RCB, Josh Hazlewood was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets against the PBKS.

PBKS moves to second place in the IPL 2025 points table

With this win, Punjab moved to second place with 10 points, winning 5 out of 7 matches in the IPL 2025 points table. On the other hand, Bengaluru stayed in fourth place with 8 points, winning 4 of their 7 games under Rajat Patidar’s captaincy so far in the tournament.

There will be another face-off between PBKS and RCB on April 20 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh in the ongoing IPL 2025. Earlier, Bhuvneshwar Kumar lauded Patidar’s captaincy for RCB in the ongoing season.

Bhuvneshwar stated, “He's been very good. The best thing is that he's been calm. That's what he needed, especially in this format. Because when you lose a match, the easy thing is to get panicked. And that's what he has done.

We lost two matches, but he's been the same whether we won or we lost. So, he's been handling everything very well. With the bowling changes and everything, he's been superb.”
