Former Pakistan batter Ramiz Raja has lauded R Ashwin for his recent performances in the Test series against Bangladesh. Ramiz reckons that Ashwin has a great record as an allrounder but is still not highly rated in that category.
Ravichandran Ashwin was adjudged Player of the Series for his recent performances with bat and ball against Bangladesh. Ashwin bagged 11 wickets in 2 Tests of the series at an average of 19.27 and was the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament.
R Ashwin made a stellar contribution with the bat as well. He scored a magnificent hundred in the first Test at Chennai to bail India out of a precarious position. He scored 113 off 133 balls in the first innings of Chennai Test.

Ramiz Raja heaps praise on R Ashwin after his exploits over Bangladesh
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Ramiz Raja spoke about R Ashwin's performance in the series. Raja feels that Ashwin does not get enough recognition as an allrounder despite having brilliant numbers with both bat and ball.
"He (Ravichandran Ashwin) has not been celebrated as much as he should be as an all-rounder. If you look at his record, he is not less than anyone. He is a no-nonsense cricketer, who takes everything in his stride. Even when he is the 12th man or is out of the team, there are no tantrums," Ramiz said.
R Ashwin is the only cricketer in Test cricket to pick up 500 wickets and score six hundreds with the bat. With his sixth hundred recently, he also drew level with MS Dhoni on the no. of Test centuries.
"He has an intelligent take on the game" - Ramiz Raja on R Ashwin
The former Pakistan cricketer also feels that Ashwin has an intelligent mind which is reflected in the way he talks. He praised the offspinner for understanding the game situation well.
"He understands the team's situation and his responsibility. Whenever he gets a chance, he plays brilliantly. There is a lot to learn from Ashwin. He is opinionated but not like he does a lot of critical analysis of anything off the field. He has an intelligent take on the game, which shows in his comments," he added.
Ramiz Raja speaks on India's spin duo
Meanwhile, Ramiz Raja also compared the success of the spin duo of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja with Pakistan's cricketers. He reckons that Indian players go on a learning curve and continue to perform for a long time, unlike Pakistan's players whose performance starts going down after some time.
"We have seen how these two - Ashwin and Jadeja have grown in the game. In Pakistan, the performance of players plateaus and then slides down. There are a lot of examples of that in our country," Ramiz noted.
"But India's great success story is that their players go on a learning curve and then continue to ascend for a long time. They don't plateau or fall off because they know there is a lot of competition sitting on the bench, players who can challenge them," the former Pakistan captain added.
R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja deserve a lot of credit for India's utter dominance at home in Test cricket over the years. India have not lost a Test series in home conditions since 2012.
Meanwhile, India's next Test series will be the three-match series against New Zealand, beginning on October 16. Afterward, Team India will travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will be played later this year.
