Ramiz Raja Keen To Propose 4-Nation Tournament Involving India At ICC Board Meeting
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has decided to pitch a 4-nation tournament involving India, England, and Australia in the upcoming ICC Board Meeting. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also expected to take part.
As per reports, it is unlikely to go through. According to the ICC rule, a board can only host a 3-nation tournament at the maximum. However, to bypass the rule, Ramiz intends to ask ICC to host the event which is projected to generate USD 750 million in revenue.
“Our Futures Tours & Programme (FTP) is packed. Also, the fact that there are a lot of factors and as of now, there is no change in the policy of playing them at ICC events. Also, we don’t think ICC will be ready to organize a four-nation, and Raja’s proposal will be turned down,” a senior BCCI official said.
“The calendar is choc-a-bloc and also we need to keep players physical and mental health in mind with so much cricket being played,” the official added. As per the proposal, each member board will host the tournament on a rotation basis.
“It is not an attempt to undermine the ICC Events” – PCB
As per a PCB source, it is an idea that can generate huge amounts of money and considering it will not harm any parties involved. This will also allow India and Pakistan to play on a regular basis, unlike in recent years when they only meet at ICC events.
“The proposal suggests a potential revenue of USD 750 million, which the PCB boss wants to be distributed amongst the participating nations and other ICC members through a distribution model.”
“It is not an attempt to undermine the ICC Events or the ICC Events Cycle. The ICC tried the Super Series in 2005, so there is no harm in testing waters for another event,” a PCB source was quoted as saying to PTI.
