Former Pakistan captain and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja sparked controversy during commentary in the first Test against South Africa at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. After calling Babar Azam’s actions “drama,” Ramiz said Noman Ali’s shades looked like “welding glasses” on the second day.
Noman Ali produced a fine bowling display, taking four wickets for 85 runs to keep South Africa in check on a challenging batting surface. At the stumps on Day 2, De Zorzi remained unbeaten on 81 runs alongside Muthusamy, who was on six, with South Africa still trailing Pakistan by 162 runs in their first innings.

After retiring in 1997, Ramiz took up commentary and later served as an administrator, including the position of PCB chairman. The former cricketer has often stirred debate with his blunt remarks, earning both praise and criticism from fans and experts alike.
During the second day of the Test, the player-turned-commentator mocked Noman Ali for his sunglasses. The remark came in the 25th over of South Africa’s first innings, with Raja joking that Ali’s eyewear looked like “welding glasses.”
“He is wearing a fancy pair of glasses. They look like welding glasses,” Raja said during commentary.

The Main Effort Is to Dismiss Them For... - Noman Ali
Noman Ali praised his team’s disciplined bowling and coordination among the spinners. He stated that the clear tactical approach helped them dominate the day. Noman emphasized their goal of restricting South Africa’s score and building a lead of over 100 runs to secure an advantage.
“The main effort is to dismiss them for as few runs as possible and take the biggest lead possible,” Noman said in his post-day press conference. “We’re targeting a lead of 100-plus. That will give us an advantage going into the third innings.”
On the first day, Imam-ul-Haq, who scored 93, shared a 161-run stand with captain Shan Masood, who made 76. Pakistan then lost momentum as wickets fell quickly. The home team managed to end their first innings with 378 runs.
