The Pakistan T20 World Cup 2021 squad saw some surprise players being chosen as wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan, son of former Pakistan captain, and Ramiz’s 1992 World Cup-winning teammate Moin Khan, was chosen as the backup wicketkeeper, over former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, who was not even named in the reserves.

Many have linked Ramiz Raja’s appointment as the new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman the reason behind the sudden resignations from the Pakistan team head coach Misbah-UL-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis. Both had been under tremendous pressure for the past few months due to the national team’s performances and many sources have indicated that they would have been asked to leave when the new regime took over at the PCB and instead, decided to quit themselves.

Ramiz is expected to announce some policy decisions regarding the organization of cricket in Pakistan, the selection committee system, and other important issues.
