Afghanistan’s T20I skipper and star spinner Rashid Khan has had a forgettable outing in the 10th match of the ongoing The Hundred 2025 between Birmingham Phoenix and Oval Invincibles at the Edgbaston Cricket Stadium in Birmingham on Tuesday, August 12.
Rashid Khan is known as one of the most economical and dangerous bowlers in the shorter formats, but he had no answers when the Birmingham Phoenix batters, especially Liam Livingstone, went berserk at him in the 2025 Hundred clash at Edgbaston.
Rashid Khan shocked the Oval Invincibles in The Hundred 2025
Oval Invincibles skipper Sam Billings brought Rashid into the attack in the sixth over. He started well, giving away just two runs from his first four deliveries, but Will Smeed broke the rhythm with a big six off the fifth ball. In Rashid’s next over, Joe Clarke took him on for two sixes, and Smeed added a boundary to the tally.
In his third over, Jacob Bethell and Liam Livingstone were at the crease. Livingstone managed to find the boundary once, while the remaining deliveries by Rashid in that area went for singles. The toughest moment of the Afghanistan spinner's night came when Liam Livingstone launched an assault, smashing 26 runs off just five balls in one over (76-80 balls of the innings).

Livingstone’s brutal assault on Rashid began with a fierce sweep to the leg side that went past short fine leg for a boundary. In the next delivery, Livingstone stepped across and lofted an overpitched ball high over long-on for six. Then, Rashid tried to adjust by pulling his length back, but Livingstone was ready and hammered a pull-over deep square leg for another six.
The carnage didn’t stop there as he played a powerful slog-sweep off a full delivery on the pads, and it sailed over deep backward square leg for a third straight six. On the final ball of the over, Livingstone found the gap again and sent the ball for a boundary.

Rashid Khan achieves unwanted record in The Hundred
In just five balls, the England all-rounder made 26 runs, leaving Rashid and the Oval Invincibles shell-shocked. By the end of his 20-ball quota, Rashid had conceded a staggering 59 runs without taking a single wicket, which is the most expensive spell ever recorded in the history of the Men’s Hundred.

Additionally, Rashid recorded the most expensive spell in his entire T20 career, as the Hundred matches are counted as T20 games. With this unwanted record, the Afghanistan spinner surpassed the previous worst of 53 runs, jointly held by David Wiese in 2022 and David Payne in 2023.

Former South Africa and Namibia had conceded 53 runs for the Northern Superchargers against the Manchester Originals in the 2022 edition. On the other hand, England’s left-arm pacer David Payne gave away the same number of runs for Welsh Fire against the Superchargers in the next season.
Notably, Livingstone remained unbeaten at 69 off 27 and helped Birmingham Phoenix to beat Oval Invincibles by four wickets in 98 balls at Edgbaston on Tuesday.
