The former India coach Ravi Shastri discussed his experience hitting six sixes and watching Yuvraj Singh do the same while being on the television.

The 2007 T20 World Cup match between England and India had Shastri as the pundit. Yuvraj Singh smashed six maximums off Stuart Broad during that game.

Even after hitting six sixes in one over, Ravi Shastri kept it a secret from his mother. The following day, she will learn from a Bhelpuri wala. Perhaps smashing six sixes and holding the mic while Yuvraj Singh did so rank among Shastri’s many unforgettable cricket moments from his time as a player, broadcaster, and coach.

In the most recent episode of CRED’s The Long Game, Shastri said, “I can never say I was ready for what was coming next. I have hit six sixes in an over, I have broadcast while six sixes were being hit in an over, and I have coached the team through matches where we did not hit a single six in any over.”

“Like Kapil Dev’s 175 in the world up, there was no coverage on television. However, I was unaware at the time that Sir Garfield Sobers was the only guy to have previously hit six 6s, therefore I became the second man to do so. Six 6s was a huge score,” Shastri added.

‘I think Yuvraj Singh is the favourite to hit a six here’: Ravi Shastri

This focus on the little things benefited Ravi Shastri, the on-air commentator when Yuvraj Singh smashed six maximums off Stuart Broad in the 19th over of the innings during the India-England game during the 2007 T20 World Cup.

“You know, there was a verbal altercation between Yuvraj Singh and Andrew Flintoff, and Yuvraj was shaken and irritated by it. The stage was prepared for something extraordinary to occur, and it did. After the first two went for six, the second for six, and the third for six, David Lloyd sprung from his seat and ran off. The events that followed were complete mayhem.”

“Again David took off with me of course as the fifth six was struck. I was aware of this and stated, “I believe Yuvraj is the favorite to smash a six here,” in the favorite. When the next one blows up for 6, you take off. What was going to happen was unknown. It requires ferocious attention.”

“Back then on the air, he would scream out, “And he has put it away or has he? Yes he has put in the crowd. Six sixes! Yuvraj finishes things off in style. The first time it has happened in Twenty20! The first’s the full monty!” Ravi Shastri Said.

Yuvraj Singh became only the second batsman in international cricket history to hit six sixes in an over on September 19, 2007.
