Cricket fans have long wondered which of their favourite players from the past would have made headlines in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions or during the tournament itself.

While the answer will always be unknown, an Indian cricket legend Ravi Shastri has revealed how much money he would have bid at the IPL mega-auction.

The price tag would almost certainly have put Shastri, who was one of India’s top all-rounders in the 1980s, in the IPL record books.

Ravi Shastri, India’s former all-rounder, scored 3830 runs in 80 Tests and took 151 wickets in his 11-year career. In one-day internationals, he took 129 wickets and scored 3108 runs, and he was also a member of India’s World Cup-winning squad in 1983.

Not to mention, Shastri hit six sixes in an over during a Ranji Trophy match. In the 1980s, he was one of India’s premier all-rounders.

Ravi Shastri reveals how much money he earned if he participated in the IPL auction:

So, when asked during an interview with ESPNCricinfo how much he would have gone for in an IPL auction, Shastri responded without hesitation that he would comfortably find his name in the 15-crore bracket and would be named captain of the IPL side as well.

“Conveniently in the 15 crore range.” Comfortably! As well as captain of the team. Without a doubt.

Shastri’s price tag would have put him in the IPL record books. Star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was the most expensive Indian player at an IPL auction, having been signed by Delhi (Daredevils) for INR 16 crore in 2015. Ishan Kishan comes in second, having sold for INR 15.25 crore at the mega-auction last month. He became a member of the Mumbai Indians.
