Legendary Indian spinner and CSK teammate Ravichandran Ashwin makes a massive revelation on the hurdles CSK had to overcome to acquire the services of Dewald Brevis midway through the IPL 2025 season.
Chennai Super Kings did not have the best of seasons in the last season of the IPL, as they finished last in the points table, a humiliating result for the 5-time Champions of the prestigious franchise league. However, despite not having a great season, they refined some fine young talents who could excel for them in the coming years.
CSK have always been a futuristic side, as they, after a weak start and a set of injury setbacks, looked to make some subtle changes to their squad with new players. They brought in the likes of Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis, who stood as surprise packages towards the backend of the tournament.
Ravichandran Ashwin makes a massive revelation on Dewald Brevis' deal
The franchise has been known for its decisions to back young players and produce several greats of the game, which include Ravichandran Ashwin himself alongside Ravindra Jadeja and, most recently, the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube.
However, CSK looked to strengthen their young talent bank as they acquired the likes of Noor Ahmed, Rachin Ravindra, Ayush Mhatre, and Dewald Brevis while retaining Matheesha Pathirana.
Now, in a YouTube video, Ravichandran Ashwin has been marked saying that he was impressed by CSK management for willingly paying that extra money to acquire the services of Dewald Brevis midway through the season. As per the rules, for a midway pick, they have to negotiate with the player's agent.
"Is he the next AB or the first DB? Brevis had a great time with CSK last year. I came to understand two or three other teams also spoke with him, but they missed picking because of having to pay extra money," Ravichandran Ashwin stated.
"While picking up a player mid-season, there will be discussions with the player's agent to negotiate on an 'X' amount apart from the base price to acquire his services. CSK were willing to pay the extra money, due to which he (Brevis) came into the franchise," confirmed Ravichandran Ashwin.
Fans have ripped apart Ravichandran Ashwin for this revelation.
Brevis proved his worth for CSK in just 6 games
Brevis, who had a base price of INR 75 lakhs and went unsold in the mega-auction, was acquired by CSK for a whopping INR 2.2 Crores after negotiations as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh, the left-arm quick from Tamil Nadu.
Brevis proved his worth quickly to the world and proved the CSK management right on another occasion, as the former Mumbai Indians cricketer returned with some startling stats. He played 6 games in the season and scored 225 runs at an average of 37 and a strike rate of 180.
However, just numbers could not add to Brevis' value in the CSK side, as his contributions saved them from humiliating collapses on several occasions in IPL 2025.
'Baby AB' turns youngest South African cricketer to score a T20I hundred
Brevis has been the red-hot topic of discussion in the cricket world over the last 2 days, ever since he hit his maiden T20I century and went on to be the youngest Protea cricketer to have gotten to a ton in international T20 cricket.
Dewald scored 125* at a strike rate over 220 and reached his hundred off just 41 balls. This is the second fastest hundred scored by a South African in T20Is and is now the highest score by a Protea in an international T20 game.
