Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen was all praises for Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who has become the nemesis of the England team in the ongoing four-match Test series, having picked up 24 wickets with three fifers to his name in 3 Test matches thus far and one century.

Pietersen lauded the Tamil Nadu off-spinner’s performance has a lot more to offer and can become India’s all-time greatest bowler surpassing the likes of Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Kapil Dev, and other legends. This came after Ashwin became the third Indian spinner to reach 400 Test wickets in the third Test against England.

He Is A Very Smart Bowler- Kevin Pietersen

Ravichandran Ashwin had dismissed Jofra Archer on Thursday to become the fastest Indian and the second-fastest in the world after Sri Lanka spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan to get to the 400-Test wickets milestone. The right-arm off-spinner also completed 600 wickets in international cricket as well.

Pietersen said that Ashwin is a very smart bowler and knows how to get the best out of all kinds of conditions.

“It’s a fabulous effort for Ravi Ashwin to have become the second-fastest bowler to reach 400 Test match wickets. He is a very smart bowler, who knows exactly how to get the best out of the conditions that he is given both home and away. He’s got so much variety and so much control to go with it. He’s been marvelous in all formats and I suspect he has plenty more in the tank to become one of their all-time great bowlers,” Pietersen said.

Before Ravichandran Ashwin, Anil Kumble (956), Harbhajan Singh (711), Kapil Dev (687), and Zaheer Khan (610) all picked 600 international wickets for India. Anil Kumble (619), Kapil Dev (434), and Harbhajan Singh (417) are ahead of Ravi Ashwin in the list of highest Test wicket-takers for India.

Ashwin also overtook Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon on the overall list of highest wicket-takers in Test cricket to grab 16th place. The list is headed by Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan with 800 wickets. Ashwin also has 2643 runs in 77 Tests with 5 centuries to his name at an average of 28.11.
