The series opener between the teams commenced on Thursday (19th September) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Ravichandran Ashwin oozed his class with the bat as he made sure that he entertained his home crowd and put his team in the dominating position. The veteran Indian off-spinner came to bat after the team was under massive pressure and was reeling at 144/6 inside 50 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin came out with the white-ball mindset and, along with Ravindra Jadeja, bailed the team out of trouble. The senior player of the Indian National Cricket Team raced up to his half-century in just 58 balls, and after that, he didn't look back, taking attack to the opposition.

Ashwin made sure that he made his home Test a special one. The right-hander slammed a sensational century and made everyone stand and applaud him for his heroics. In front of his father, who was in the stadium, the legend of the game hit his 6th century in the longest format of the game.

Ashwin ended day 1 with an unbeaten 102 runs off 112 balls. The homeboy also hit 10 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. His stellar innings with the bat helped the India National Cricket Team end with a score of 339 runs on the board.
