Ravichandran Ashwin registers for ILT20 auction, fears going unsold

India’s spin maestro Ravichandran Ashwin has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the upcoming ILT20 auction. The former Indian off-spinner, who is known for his tactical brilliance, has registered his name in the players’ list and is now eagerly awaiting the ILT20 Auction 2026.

As reported by Cricbuzz, Ravichandran Ashwin has registered for the upcoming ILT20 Auction 2026, with his name set to appear once enrollment formalities are completed. The organizers have set the deadline of September 10 for the players to complete registration, and the auction will take place on September 30 in Dubai, UAE.

If picked, the former Indian all-rounder will feature in the fourth season of the ILT20, which will be held from December 2 to January 4 next year in the UAE. Ravichandran Ashwin was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz: “I have sent my name for the ILT20 auction. Hopefully, I will have a buyer.”

Now, it will be interesting to see whether one of cricket’s most decorated bowlers will make his debut in the UAE’s T20 league. But with his vast experience across formats and leagues worldwide, Ashwin’s entry is expected to generate intense bidding interest among franchises.

This year, the ILT20 has shifted from its traditional draft system to a full-fledged auction, with the franchisees now eager to grab big names for the next season. Ashwin’s entry into the players auction could make him the biggest Indian star to grace the UAE league.

Earlier, Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan, and Ambati Rayudu played in the UAE’s franchise T20 league. With 282 international matches under his belt, Ashwin is one of India’s most decorated match-winners. He also played 221 games for Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

The legendary off-spinner has also represented Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket as well as the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). Additionally, Ashwin has also played 65 T20Is for India.

Meanwhile, it is highly likely that Ashwin might have received prior assurances from one of the franchises before registering for the auction, as the greatest number of team owners are the IPL franchise owners.

Beyond the ILT20, Ravichandran Ashwin is also eyeing player-cum-coach roles in other major global leagues, including Major League Cricket in the US and The Hundred in England next year.

Several big international names have already been snapped up by the ILT20 teams MI Emirates, Gulf Giants, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Sharjah Warriorz, Dubai Capitals, and Desert Viper.

The list includes stars like Alex Hales, Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Liam Livingstone, Phil Salt, Sherfane Rutherford, Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, Sam Curran, Shimron Hetmyer, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Mustafizur Rahman, Rovman Powell, Shai Hope, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Moeen Ali.

Apart from them, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Chris Woakes, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Kusal Perera, Romario Shepherd, Adil Rashid, Kusal Mendis, Tim Southee, Maheesh Theekshana, Sikandar Raza, and Tim David are among the high-profile signings for the upcoming season.
