Ravichandran Ashwin's wife, Prithi Narayanan, shared an emotional tribute following his unexpected retirement announcement after the recent Test match in Brisbane. Prithi Narayanan said she is proud of Ravichandran Ashwin's achievements and encouraged him to embrace a life beyond cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday, December 18, following the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at The Gabba, which ended in a draw. The 38-year-old concluded his career with 537 Test wickets and 3,503 runs, including six centuries.

He picked up 765 wickets across all formats. Ashwin is the second-highest wicket-taker for India after Anil Kumble, who took 953. He also took 156 wickets in ODIs and 72 in T20Is. He secured just one wicket in his final international match in Adelaide, where Team India suffered a heavy 10-wicket defeat.

It Has Been a Blurry Two Days for Me - Ravichandran Ashwin's Wife

In an Instagram post, Prithi Narayanan shared her emotions following Ravichandran Ashwin's retirement announcement, describing it as a blurry two days for her. She said that Ashwin is her all-time favorite cricketer.

"It has been a blurry two days for me. I have been thinking about what I can say. Do I put this down as a tribute to my all time favorite cricketer ? Maybe I’ll just take the partner angle? Or maybe a love letter from a fan girl? I guess this is a little bit of all of it," Narayanan wrote in an Instagram post.

Prithi also revealed the highs and lows of Ravichandran Ashwin's career. She also reminisced about joyful moments, such as celebrations after major wins, and the emotional times of silence and heartbreak.

"When I saw Ashwins PC, I thought of small and big moments. Many many memories over the last 13-14 years. The big wins, the MOS awards, the quiet silence in our room after an intense game, the sound of the shower running for much longer than usual on some evenings post play , the scratch of pencil over paper as he scribbled thoughts down, the constant streaming of footage videos when he is making a game plan, the calm of meditative breathing before leaving for each game, certain songs playing on repeat while he unwinds," Narayanan posted.

“The times we weeped in joy - after the CT final, after the MCG win, after the Sydney draw, The Gabba win, after making a comeback in T20s...the times we sat in silence and the times when we had our hearts broken.”

From Not Knowing How to Put a Kit Bag Together - Prithi Narayanan

Prithi spoke about how she became deeply involved in cricket, starting from not knowing how to assemble a kit bag to traveling the world to support Ashwin. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to experience the sport up close and learn about the dedication, passion, and discipline required.

“Dear Ashwin, from not knowing how to put a kit bag together to following you to stadiums all over the world, rooting for you, watching you, and learning from you, it has been an absolute pleasure. The world you introduced me to gave me the privilege to watch and enjoy a sport that I love from close quarters."

Ravichandran Ashwin has retired from international cricket, but he will still play for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. It remains to be seen whether he will participate in the Ranji Trophy with Tamil Nadu later this season.
