Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali showered praise on veteran cricketer Ravindra Jadeja for his batting during the third Test of the ongoing five-match series at Lord's, where India lost by 22 runs. However, Moeen expressed disappointment over the spinner’s impact with the ball throughout the series.
With the five-match Test series level at 1-1, India had a golden chance to take the lead. However, they collapsed to 112/8 while chasing a target of 193 runs in the final innings. Ravindra Jadeja fought back with an unbeaten 61 off 181 balls alongside the tailenders, but India eventually fell short by 22 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja Hasn’t Quite Got the Wickets - Moeen Ali
During a media interaction, Moeen Ali shared his views on Ravindra Jadeja’s performance in the ongoing Test series. Ali was not impressed with Jadeja's bowling but noted that he hasn’t taken many wickets. Moeen added that Jadeja is capable with the ball.
“He just knows what he’s doing. I think he’s done it for many years. I think he’s been amazing with the bat this series, obviously. I think with the ball, he hasn’t quite got the wickets, but he does what he does. He’s very tight. He can bowl, but he’s not outstanding…
“I think now he’s at the peak of his batting. Bowling-wise, I think he just doesn’t have the wickets. With the tally, I think he’s bowled well, he just doesn’t have the wickets,” said Ali in an interaction with India Today.
Ravindra Jadeja Has Been One of India’s Top Batters in the Ongoing Series
Ravindra Jadeja has been one of India’s top batters in the ongoing series. The left-hander scored 72 runs in the first innings at Lord’s and became only the third Indian, after Sourav Ganguly and Rishabh Pant, to register four consecutive fifties in England.
However, the left-arm spinner has been underwhelming with the ball, managing just three wickets across six innings at an average close to 114.
It’s worth mentioning that Jadeja and Moeen Ali were teammates at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from 2021 to 2024 in the Indian Premier League (IPL), before Moeen moved to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the 2025 season.
I Would Like to See Kuldeep Yadav in the Team - Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali has said that he would like to see Kuldeep Yadav in India’s playing XI, but admitted it is difficult to accommodate him. Ali added that Washington Sundar has performed well with the ball, and Ravindra Jadeja has been impressive with the bat.
“I would like to see Kuldeep in the team, but I don’t know who for. Washington has bowled well, Jadeja batted well. So it makes it difficult to bring Kuldeep Yadav in the side,” Ali added.
India have opted for batting depth in their playing XI, which has kept Kuldeep Yadav out of action in all three Tests. The wrist-spinner has featured in just 13 matches since making his debut in 2017, taking 56 wickets at an average of 22.16.
