RCB Confirm Luke Williams As Head Coach Ahead Of Next Season

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), on Saturday (September 30), confirmed the appointment of Luke Williams as the head coach of the women’s team for the upcoming edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
The former Australia cricketer has replaced Ben Sawyer for the role. In the inaugural edition of the WPL, RCB Women failed to make it to the final. They finished at the fourth spot in the five-team competition earlier this year. They were knocked out of the tournament at the league stage after managing only 2 wins in 8 games.
RCB Women began their campaign in WPL 2023 in a disastrous fashion despite having the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, and Heather Knight in their ranks. The Smriti Mandhana-led side began their campaign with five straight defeats. It was followed by two wins before they lost their final league game and crashed out of the competition.
Luke Williams appointed RCB head coach:
Following the disastrous campaign in the first edition of the WPL, RCB have sacked Ben Sawyer and have roped in Big Bash League-winning coach Luke Williams.
The former cricketer, who played five First-Class matches between 2000 and 2005, has a good reputation as a coach. He was the head coach of Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League for four seasons and coached them to their inaugural title in 2022-23.
Before that, the Strikers had finished as runners-up twice under his coaching. He was also Southern Brave’s assistant coach when they won their first title in the Women’s Hundred earlier this year.
“I look forward to working with a playing group that will host a number of the most exciting players in Indian and world cricket as we look to bring a bold and exciting style of play and success to our huge and passionate fan base,” Luke Williams said after his appointment.
