RCB end trophy drought

Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their IPL trophy drought on Tuesday, June 3, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and lifted the championship.

They displayed a magnificent brand of cricket throughout the competition and won their maiden IPL title by beating the red-hot Punjab Kings in the summit clash.

Rajat Patidar-led side posted 190/9 on the board in the final after opting to bat first, thanks to crucial contributions from all the players, and then they restricted the Punjab Kings to 184/7 to clinch a 6-run win.

7 killed in stampede at Chinnaswamy during RCB victory celebrations

After winning the championship for the first time, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru announced a victory parade in Bengaluru as well as other celebratory events.

They got a grand welcome in the city on Wednesday afternoon, and fans came in big numbers to show their support. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru players were welcomed at the airport by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

As the team made its way to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's office at Vidhana Soudha, a massive crowd gathered on the road to see their superstars. After they met with the Chief Minister, the IPL 2025 champions traveled to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium for the special celebrations.

However, the celebrations of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have turned deadly. The police in the city were unable to control the large crowd outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and seven people died in the stampede. Also, more than 25 people were injured at the gates of the stadium, with 6 in critical condition, as per TOI.

Yeah, it probably means everything to Virat Kohli: RCB pacer Josh Hazlewood

Speaking after the win against the Punjab Kings, the pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood said that the triumph means a lot to Virat Kohli, who has given his all to the franchise for 18 years. He said:

"Yeah, I think 190 was a very good score. I think the wicket was a little bit up and down. I know it got better as the night went on. But I think our guys brought it out in the back really well to close that score. Everyone just chipped in. And the bowlers held their nerves. So, yeah, great result.

"Yeah, it probably means everything [to Virat Kohli]. You know, a few of us come and go in franchises. But to me, they're there from the start.

"And to slug it out for 18 seasons and to get the result tonight, I think you'll see a bit of emotion, yeah. Yeah, absolutely [on coming back after the IPL interruption]. You only get better playing in situations like this, gaining that experience. It only adds so many things to your body. So, very happy I came back. I feel fine. These franchises have been for a number of years. Yeah, it's awesome."
