Glenn Maxwell came up with the much-talked-about 'silence' gesture at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (April 28) after Royal Challengers Bengaluru's thumping nine-wicket win over the home side Gujarat Titans.

Australia captain Pat Cummins had famously silenced the Indian crowd after leading his team to a victory over the Men in Blue in the ODI World Cup final at the same venue last year. While Cummins had not made any gesture on the field during the final, he had expressed his desire to silence the huge crowd by winning the final.

Speaking to the journalists before the final, Cummins had said that in sports, there's nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent and that's the aim for us tomorrow. Well, he led his team from the very front in the final as Australia thrashed India by six wickets to clinch a record-extending sixth World Cup title in the 50-over format.

"I think you've got to embrace it. The crowd's obviously going to be very one-sided but, in sport there's nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent and that's the aim for us tomorrow," Pat Cummins had said.

"Yeah, you've just got to embrace every part of it, every part of a final - even in the lead-up, there's going to be noise and more people and interest, and you just can't get overwhelmed. You've got to be up for it, you've got to love it, and just know whatever happens it's fine, but you just want to finish the day with no regrets," he had added.

Glenn Maxwell's silence gesture:

Glenn Maxwell returned to the Narendra Modi Stadium for the first time since the World Cup triumph and made sure to do the silence gesture. He did it soon after the match between Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru ended.

The fans were shouting at him as he was walking towards the dressing room. The Australia star stopped for a while and put his finger on the lips before walking back. Maxwell returned to the same spot again and pointed at the RCB logo on his jersey while chanting the team's name as well before the fans joined in.

Talking about the game, RCB thrashed GT by nine wickets to register their third win in IPL 2024. Half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan and Shahrukh Khan propelled GT to 200 for 3 before RCB chased down the total in just 16 overs by losing just one wicket. Will Jacks starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 41-ball fifty while Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten half-century.
