In what comes as good news for the Indian team and its fans, the fast bowling duo of Mohammed Shami and Navdeep Saini have recovered from their respective injuries and are likely to join the India team ahead of the pink-ball Test against England next week.

Both Shami and Saini sustained injuries during the recently-concluded Test series against Australia. Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the last three Tests Down Under and the first couple Tests of the ongoing series due to a fracture on his right arm he sustained during the second innings of the Adelaide Test.

Navdeep Saini, on the other hand, suffered a groin injury during the series-decider at the Gabba in Brisbane.

The BCCI has asked both players to not take part in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy as the national selection committee will be picking the squad for the next two Tests in the upcoming days.

Saini is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He has bowling at full tilt. The Delhi selectors wanted to have his services for the Vijay Hazare Trophy but Saini was asked to stay back at NCA as he is likely to join the team in Ahmedabad.” said a press release issued by the BCCI.

The report further stated that the selection committee might also pick the squad for the five-match T20I series that starts immediately after the Test rubber.

According to the same report, the selection committee is looking to form a pool of T20 specialists in the domestic circuit. The players will train with the Indian team and NCA. The likes of Sidharth Kaul, Nitish Rana, and Ishan Kishan are expected to be a part of the pool.

The third Test between India and England will kickstart on February 24th at the newly revamped Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
