The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly decided against taking any disciplinary action against the players.
Recent reports stated that the PCB was not happy with the way some of the players behaved in the dressing room during the tour of England and the T20 World Cup and were all set to take action. The Pakistan media stated that the PCB sacked team manager Mansoor Rana for failing to take action against the players and wanted to investigate the whole matter.
The reports stated that fast-bowler Shaheen Afridi was in the firing line of the PCB. The left-arm pacer had misbehaved with batting coach Mohammad Yousuf during the tour of England and although he had issued an apology in front of the whole team, the PCB wanted to take disciplinary action. Afridi also decided against engaging in team discussions during the T20 World Cup.
Afridi was reportedly in danger of getting dropped from the Test team for the upcoming series against Bangladesh at home. While only time will reveal his fate, PTI has reported that the PCB has decided to recommendations of its head coaches and would not impose any punitive measures on players. The PCB has taken the decision in order to let the players focus completely on the upcoming assignments.
"But until now no disciplinary committee has been formed as per the board constitution," a PCB source told the news outlet.
The source stated that PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi had a discussion with white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten, Test head coach Jason Gillespie, selectors Mohammad Yousuf, and Asad Shafiq before dropping the plan to take the disciplinary action.
"The coaches assured the chairman that they should be given time to settle down the team and remove any issues within the team. Their take was that (the) matters are not that serious that can't be resolved in the dressing room," said the source.
Pakistan eye much-needed win against Bangladesh:
Pakistan will be desperate to get back to winning ways in Tests and win the upcoming series against Bangladesh. The series will be their first assignment since the T20 World Cup in June where they had a disastrous campaign. The Babar Azam-led side had bowed out of the tournament at the group stage after suffering losses against the USA and India.
Meanwhile, the two-match Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh will start on August 21 in Rawalpindi. The second game is scheduled to be played from August 30 in Karachi.
