The 15th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) is going to see a high-octane battle between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The match between the Ajinkya Rahane-led Kolkata Knight Riders and the Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad is being hosted by the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, April 3.
KKR and SRH last took on each other in the final of the Indian Premier League 2024 and the Shreyas Iyer-led team comfortably won the game to clinch the title.
Things have not been smooth for last year's finalists in the ongoing season, as both of them have won one out of three games they played. In the points table, SRH are eighth and KKR tenth while Rajasthan Royals, who lost to SRH and KKR, are sandwiched in between at ninth.
KKR, under the new leader Ajinkya Rahane, have looked poor with the bat. They have been unable to replicate the magic of last year's opening partnership, and their middle order which includes Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh - is averaging 17.22 and striking at 117.3.
On the other hand, SRH have also not looked at their best in the powerplays with both bat and ball. Travishek - Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma - have failed to fire together, which has put the middle order under pressure.
SRH have an 80% win record when both Head and Abhishek survive the powerplay and it drops 17% when both get out early. With the ball, they have been taken to the cleaners and there is an urgent need for improvement

Talking about the head-to-head record, KKR won all three games against SRH in IPL 2024. Overall, they have an edge over SRH with a 19-9 win-loss record.
IPL 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad win the toss and opt to field
Speaking after winning the toss, SRH skipper Pat Cummins said that they would continue to bat with the same aggressive approach despite failures in the last few games. He said:
"We will bowl. Looks like a good surface, but I'm terrible at reading it. They outplayed us in the final, but a bit of change in both sides. We've spoken about our batting, we've been at our best while being aggressive, but we can't be reckless. He has been amazing, doesn't get unfazed by any situation. Coordination is the key, but we do have a clear idea."
Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane said that he was happy with the way the pitch has been prepared as it will assist their spinners. He said:
"Looks good, I'm really happy with the pitch, we were also bowling first. It will suit our spinners, at home, you should get what you want, but we'll need to assess the situation quickly with the bat. We sat together, discussed how we can get better, but this is a long tournament and it was one bad day. Moeen Ali comes in place of Spencer Johnson. Regardless of all plans, we'll have to come out and do well in the middle."
