Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have officially revealed the list of impact players that they have nominated for the 49th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are hosting the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the high-octane match of IPL 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

CSK are having one of their worst campaigns in the history of the Indian Premier League and are languishing at the bottom of the points table with just two wins in nine matches.
Once a fortress for Chennai Super Kings, Chepauk has been breached by four teams in the ongoing season. It has been just the second time that CSK have lost four successive games at Chepauk after 2008-10.
Also, they have never lost more than four games at home in an IPL season before. However, if the trend of poor home performances continues against Punjab Kings, MS Dhoni & Co. will be officially knocked out of the playoffs race. With this, CSK will hit a historic low, as they have never missed out on the knockouts for two consecutive seasons before.
The major problem for CSK in the Indian Premier League 2025 has been their batting woes. Star and senior batters have failed to contribute well, which has forced the management to look at the youngsters.
Overall, CSK have already used 21 players this season and are aiming to build a young core for the next year, with the likes of Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, and Matheesha Pathirana being at the forefront.
Talking about the Punjab Kings, they have had a terrific campaign, and in nine matches, they have collected 11 points, which puts them at the No.5 spot on the points table.
Although PBKS are flying high, they have some problems with the middle-order batters not firing and the bowlers not delivering as a collective unit.
They will once again depend on the openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya to do the heavy lifting and ensure that the Punjab Kings post a big total on the board.
Talking about the head-to-head record, the Chennai Super Kings hold a slight 16-15 edge over the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League history. However, Punjab Kings have dominated the 5-time champions in the last few years, winning six of the last seven matches.

Speaking at the toss, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer said that they want to follow the process. He said:
"We're going to bowl first. We'll focus on our process."
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni said that they will play for pride in the remainder of the matches. He said:
"One of the things is the pride factor. Home advantage is very important which we haven't been able to capitalise on. Same team."
