PBKS and RCB aim for a ticket to the finale
The Indian Premier League 2025 has perfectly set up the Qualifier 1 battle between the two teams who have never clinched a trophy in the history of the marquee T20 league.
Punjab Kings made it to Qualifier 1 after finishing No.1 on the points table with 9 wins and 19 points, with a Net Run Rate of 0.372. This is the first time since 2014 that PBKS have made it to the playoffs, and in that year, they eventually lost the final to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) booked a spot to get two bites at the cherry after finishing second on the points table with 9 wins and 19 points, with a Net Run Rate of 0.301.
RCB have had some success over the years as they have regularly featured in the playoffs, but haven't managed to cross the final hurdle and lift the trophy.
Overall, they have played three finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016. In the 2016 IPL final, they were at the receiving end of a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Both PBKS and RCB have looked class apart in IPL 2025 and have given hope to their fans of the title drought finally ending in the 18th edition of the competition.
Under Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting, PBKS have witnessed a complete turnaround. Their success has been based on the performances of the uncapped players, and the overseas stars have also gained momentum at the right time.
On the other hand, RCB have pulled off an un-RCB-like thing of acing squad balance, and they have fired together as a unit this time around. Talking about the head-to-head record, PBKS hold a slight 18 - 17 edge over RCB, and in the ongoing season, the scoreline stands at 1-1.
