Punjab Kings (PBSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are locking horns against each other in the 37th match of the ongoing IPL 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, in New Chandigarh on Sunday, April 20.
In their previous IPL 2025 clash, Punjab Kings were defeated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru by five wickets in the rain-shortened 14-over match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was RCB’s third consecutive home defeat in the ongoing IPL 2025.
RCB aim for payback as they take on PBKS in Mullanpur
Since their away record is excellent this season, winning all four matches so far, RCB would be eager to take revenge on the PBKS in Mullanpur. Well, Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and invited the hosts, Punjab Kings, to bat first in the 37th IPL 2025 match.

Patidar felt the pitch wouldn’t change much later as he explained his decision to bowl first against the Punjab side. The Bengaluru captain also backed his team to chase comfortably and made one change, bringing in Romario Shepherd in place of Liam Livingstone in the playing XI.
Rajat Patidar said at the toss, “We're going to bowl first. Wicket looks decent; it won't change much. Batting second will give more clarity about the game and the wicket. We're not looking at venues, just trying to play good cricket. Romario Shepherd comes in for Liam Livingston.”
Shreyas Iyer hopes PBKS gets a good total on the board
Meanwhile, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer admitted they would have also preferred bowling first since it was their first afternoon game this season, but now they have to adapt to the situation and focus on setting a strong total against the Bengaluru side in Mullanpur.
The skipper confirmed that they are going with the same playing XI in the home game.
Shreyas Iyer stated, “We also wanted to bowl. At the end of the day, you always have to adapt according to the situation. It's important to give ourselves some time to see how the ball is moving. It's the first afternoon game for us. Hopefully we get a good total on the board. The support we got, especially in the last game in this stadium, was outstanding. Same team.”
Punjab Kings has so far been impressive in the ongoing IPL 2025 with five wins in their last seven games. Their bowlers, especially Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh, have done a great job, even defending the low scores in the tight matches, and now they would love to continue their winning momentum.
