Punjab Kings suffered a massive blow amid the ongoing game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Skipper Shreyas Iyer walked off the field after being unwell at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer didn't look in great shape while fielding during the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The right-hander didn't look as proactive as he had looked in the rest of the games, and ultimately walked off the field after the powerplay of the second innings.
It made many speculate as to why skipper Shreyas Iyer walked off the field before a commentator mentioned that the batter was not feeling well and, hence, walked back. This also made many confused as to who acquired charge of the team for the rest of the match.

However, it is learned that Marcus Stoinis has been given the responsibility, and he will be leading the team till the time Shreyas Iyer is off the field.
Thankfully, it was nothing serious as Shreyas Iyer was back on the field after some time. Even after the match, he provided an update, saying that it was a niggle and he will be fine. He said: "Just a minor niggle, should be fine after this game."

Coming to the match, Shreyas Iyer didn't have a great as a skipper under him. Punjab Kings went on to lose the game by 7 wickets against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The home side didn't have a great outing with the bat and ball, and it cost them.
Asked to bat, Punjab Kings had a brutal start to their innings with Prabhsimran Singh (33) and Priyansh Arya (22) taking attack to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowlers right from the start. Following that, nothing went their way with the bat.

The Iyer & Co were reduced to 114 for six and it was then when Shashank Singh (31*) and Marco Jansen (25*) played vital hands as Punjab Kings posted a fighting total of 157 runs on the board. For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya picked two wickets.
In the chase, it was all about Virat Kohli (73*) and Devdutt Padikkal (61). After they lost Phil Salt early, the duo played magnificent innings with the bat, slamming half-centuries. Their 103-run partnership sealed the game for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru who won their fifth game in the league. With the win, they moved 3rd to points table while Punjab Kings are fourth.
