While Punjab Kings enjoyed a victorious outing against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday (April 8), their all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was fined by the BCCI for breaching the IPL code of conduct.
The Shreyas Iyer-led side returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 18-run win over the five-time champions at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
It was Punjab Kings' third win in four games while CSK suffered their fourth defeat in a row.
Priyansh Arya became the star of the night
Batting first, Punjab Kings were staring down the barrel after being reduced to 83/5. However, a sensational century from young Priyansh Arya and a quickfire unbeaten fifty from Shashank Singh helped the home side recover and post a big total of 219/6 in 20 overs. Priyansh scored 103 runs off just 42 balls while Shashank remained unbeaten, 52 off 36 balls.
In reply, CSK never really looked in contention to chase down the big total. They gave Punjab Kings a few moments to worry about, but the hosts eventually registered a comfortable 18-run win. CSK finished their innings on 201/5.

BCCI takes action against Glenn Maxwell:
After the game, the BCCI took action against Glenn Maxwell for breaching the IPL code of conduct. The Australian star was fined 25 per cent of his match fees and handed one demerit point for the offence.
"Glenn Maxwell admitted to the Level 1 offence under article 2.2 (abuse of fixtures and fittings during the Match) and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," the IPL media release read.
Article 2.2 of BCCI’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials pertains to "Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match."
Maxwell is struggling to find his rhythm in IPL 2025
“Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board," reads the rule.
Talking about Glenn Maxwell Maxwell's performance in the game, he failed to deliver with the bat once again and was out for just 1 run. However, he picked up the crucial wicket of Rachin Ravindra to give his team the much-needed first breakthrough.
