Richard Illingworth Named As The ICC Umpire of the Year For 2022

England umpire Richard Illingworth has been named as the ICC Umpire of the Year for 2022. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the award on January 26th, recognizing Illingworth for his outstanding performances throughout the year.

Illingworth, who has been an umpire for over 20 years, is known for his consistency and accuracy on the field. Richard Illingworth Wins His 2nd Umpire Of The Year Award

The ICC Umpire of the Year award is given to an official who has performed exceptionally well throughout the year, as determined by the ICC’s Umpire Performance and Training Manager, and a panel of former elite umpires.

Richard Illingworth received the award after a rigorous evaluation process that took into account a number of factors, including the umpire’s on-field performance, their ability to manage players, and their consistency in making correct decisions.

In receiving the award, Illingworth joins an elite group of umpires who have been recognized by the ICC for their outstanding performances. This is his second “Umpire of the Year” award after winning it back in 2019. He joins the list of Simon Taufel (5 times), Richard Kettleborough (3 times), Aleem Dar (3 times), Kumar Dharmasena (2 times), and Marais Erasmus (3 times) to win it multiple times.

Richard Illingworth is an experienced English cricket umpire. He was appointed to the ECB full list of first-class umpires in 2006 and had umpired 47 first-class matches by the end of the 2008 English cricket season. He was promoted to the ICC International list in 2009 and joined the ICC’s elite umpire panel in 2013.

 Richard Illingworth was selected as one of the umpires for the 2015 and 2019 Cricket World Cups and was declared ICC Umpire of the year in 2019. In 2021, he was named as one of the umpires for the Test matches between Bangladesh and the West Indies and the on-field umpire for the 2021 ICC World Test Championship Final.
