Middle-order batter Rinku Singh has credited his brisk half-century in the Delhi T20I against Bangladesh to the freedom given to him by India's head coach Gautam Gambhir and the captain Suryakumar Yadav.
Rinku came in to bat when India were in trouble at 41-3 inside the powerplay. However, he formed a brilliant partnership of 108 runs in 8 overs with the youngster Nitish Kumar Reddy. The partnership was an excellent one given it came when India was under pressure.
The middle order responded superbly and helped India reach a daunting total of 221-9. Rinlu Singh smashed 53 off 29 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. On the other hand, Reddy smashed 74 off just 34 balls.

Rinku Singh credits Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav for his half-century
While speaking to the reporters after the match, Rinku Singh revealed the advice he received from Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav before the game. The advice was to just back your own game and keep hitting the ball despite any situation.
“Coach and captain has asked us to play our game, whatever the situation is. Maarte jao har ball ko (Just keep hitting every ball). I have been told to back myself and hit the ball. Gautam (Gambhir) bhai has given us the freedom,” Rinku said.
The freedom that Rinku Singh is talking about was evident in the first T20I as well where India chased down the target of 128 runs with 49 balls to spare. The fresh approach of the Indian team has been to be aggressive regardless of the situation.
Rinku Singh on his batting order
The 26-year-old further revealed his batting plans, which is to bat according to the situation. He stated that he looks to rotate the strike whenever the situation is tough but tries to score runs quickly in the death overs.
“My batting order is such that there is no fixed time when I will come to bat. When the wicket falls early then my plan is to keep the scoreboard ticking with ones and twos and wait for the poor balls to cash in. If when only two and three overs are needed, I try to score as many runs as possible and hit fours and sixes,” he added.
The left-hander also referred to the pitch in Delhi as 'two-paced' and he had to get his eye in. However, he claimed that the pitch eased out later which allowed both him and Nitish to play their shots.
Rinku Singh's importance in India's T20I plans
Rinku Singh has been a key part of India's T20I plans for a long time. Even before the T20 World Cup 2024, he played some excellent innings to put a case for himself for selection in India's squad.
Unfortunately, he did not find a place in the squad due to the tough competition within the team and the return of seniors. He was instead named among the reserve players of the tournament. However, India did not feel his absence as they clinched the title by defeating South Africa in the final.
